Practical and thoughtful assessment is part of a rigorously aligned science curriculum and is essential to this objective.
As a Science Assessment Curriculum Specialist, you will play a pivotal role as Studies Weekly continues to increase the quality of our current science products through 3-dimensional formative, summative, and performance assessments.
You will support the end-to-end development of K-5 science assessments that support student learning and evaluation.
Who You Are:
have professional assessment writing experience are methodical in aligning assessment items and standards coverage and can see details and/or inconsistencies are knowledgeable in or are willing to research assessment writing best practices for elementary students think creatively to design assessments that accurately measure student learning have a strong background in science and/or science education and can spot scientific inaccuracies within elementary science content understand the cognitive levels and abilities of K-5 students have a proven ability to develop effective assessments based on national and state-specific standards and requirements are flexible among changing demands and approach change/revision with a positive attitude are willing to give and receive feedback from peers are self-driven and motivated enjoy the challenge of research and writing What You Will Do:
Analyze k-5 science curriculum materials and standards Design formative and summative assessments for pencil and paper as well as digital platform administration Design thoughtful performance assessments Collaborate with and learn from a team of curriculum developers and assessment writing peers Align assessment items with internal guidelines and NGSS rubric requirements - including identifying NGSS three-dimensional elements in each assessment task/item.
Meticulously track coverage of the three dimensions with each assessment task/item.
Research and develop test items that align with industry needs and best practices of science education.
Manage multiple grade-level requests involving different assessment types.
Manage product development demands and priorities including but not limited to support of editorial, design, and web content.
Review assessment writing from contract employees to ensure quality Able to react to change productively and handle other duties as assigned Participate in professional development, not less than 12 hours per year Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree, Masters strongly preferred At least 2-3 years of formal assessment writing for elementary-aged students (done at a district level or for a publishing company) Have at least 2-5 years of science education experience Deep knowledge and experience with the NGSS and three-dimensional learning Experience within a publishing/development team is strongly preferred Regular and predictable attendance Physical Demand - The employee is required to talk, hear and see.
At times, this position requires the employee to stand, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, ascend and descend stairs.
Also to reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and manipulate keyboard keys.
The employee is also required to lift up to 20 lbs.
Company travel may be required by car, plane, or other means of transportation.
