Summary of Duties
UVU PREP is a free summer program to help 12-15 year-old students excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM ) subjects. The program provides hands-on learning experiences, challenging homework assignments, career awareness speakers, and weekly field trips. This position manages student attendance, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior. Attends classes with students, assisting instructors as needed. Mentors and teaches students and provides educational support for the program activities including planning lessons that develop understanding of program curriculum topics.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation with a high school diploma or GED .
Preferred Qualifications
University student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Knowledge
Knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, as determined by the department.
Knowledge of middle level classroom management techniques.
Skills
Skills in classroom management and leading learning activities.
Skills in effective verbal and written communication.
Skills to teach and tutor college level Math.
Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
Ability to mentor positive skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects with students one-to-one or in small groups.
Ability to maintain control of student groups.
Working Conditions
Schedule
Must be available to work from May 30, 2017 through July 21, 2017 (except July 3-7, 2017)
Must be available to work shifts from 8:00 am 1:00 pm OR 12 pm 5 pm Monday-Thursday.
8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fridays.
